A few years ago while attending a photography conference there was a booth there that said “F.I.L.M Project” As I started watching the video that played inside the booth my eyes filled up with tears. The F.I.L.M project is a group of photographers nationwide gifting professional family portraits to those who may have a limited time left with their loved ones due to a life-threatening illness. When I read the brochure later that day I felt inspired to give back. I know what it is like to be apart of a family with a family member who had a life-threatening illness. When my mom was first diagnosed with cancer they gave her 6 weeks to live. What the doctors didn’t know what that my mom was super woman and she beat those odds by 7 years but still it was a constant emotional roller coaster. You would treasure the good days, the good weeks, and dread for those bad day, those bad Dr. visits, those bad test results.
Ever since starting my own business I have been wanting to give back. I have always felt that everything good you can put out in the world comes back to you in even more wonderful things. I knew right away that the F.I.L.M project was something that I wanted to get involved with. Not only do I wish I would have thought to had a professional family session done with my mom, I know how much I treasure all of our photos and snap shots. To be able to give a family something to get dressed and laugh and be happy about, well that’s one of the reasons I became a photographer. To share people’s stories, to share their love for a moment in time, for me pictures are priceless. I’m excited to now be apart of this wonderful community and group of photographers nationwide. I am looking forward to photographing many sessions and meeting some wonderful families along the way.
